My name is Denise Castro, Psy.D. I am a Clinical Psychologist and have a private practice in Bellingham, WA. For me, psychotherapy is a process of self-discovery. The goal is to develop greater self-awareness that leads to a more fulfilling life. Therapy is a proactive and powerful tool for personal change and growth. I help people find their authentic selves and realize their full potential for happiness and wellbeing.
Most clients come to see me because they find themselves wanting “more” in life. This varies from wanting to understand the patterns that keep you from being your best self, to allowing yourself to heal deep emotional pain. This pain may have taken the form of depression, anxiety or addiction. It may be preventing you from living a more satisfying life. Successful therapy involves not only struggling with painful emotions, but also practicing new ways of relating. Successful therapy allows you to experience the empowerment of greater self-awareness and to gain control over your life.
My goal is to help clients feel safe, supported and understood, while also challenging them to grow, to express their feelings more effectively and to have fuller, more authentic lives and relationships.
Beginning the process of therapy can be a daunting task and finding the right therapist is a personal and important decision. I invite you to explore these pages as a way to get to know me. There is no substitute for a face-to-face meeting where you can interview me to see if my philosophy, methods, personality and approach are right for you. I welcome the opportunity to meet, discuss working together and answer any questions you may have concerning this step toward emotional health. I offer a free 20 minute consultation to start this process if you choose.
